Introducing Hometown History: Detroit Red Wings - The Captain’s Masterpieces

The Detroit Red Wings have brought back Hockeytown Throwback Nights this season to celebrate the iconic championship eras of Red Wings hockey. On January 14th, the team and fans will celebrate Steve Yzerman, who served as the team’s captain for two decades.

To honor a legendary career that included three Stanley Cup championships, a Conn Smythe Trophy, a Frank J. Selke Trophy, and induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Detroit Red Wings are collaborating with NHL Breakaway to release The Captain’s Masterpieces Pack. The limited edition pack features highlights that honor milestones and key plays from Yzerman’s 22-season career with the Detroit Red Wings.

Each of The Captain’s Masterpieces packs will contain 2 of the 3 highlights from the Hometown History: Detroit Red Wings - The Captain’s Masterpieces set:

  • Passing Mario Lemieux on the all-time goal-scoring list, placing him 8th at the time with 691st, and final goal at Joe Louis Arena (Rare #/250)
  • Dismantling the Philadelphia Flyers defense in a hat trick-completing goal during the 1988-89 season (Limited #/500)
  • 50th goal versus the Edmonton Oilers during the 1992-93 season (Core #/1500)

There will be 1,125 packs total, each available for $5 on nhlbreakaway.com beginning Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 12pm CT / 1pm ET / 10am PT.
